a Dutch copy of Met Office charts
meteonet.nl/aktueel/brackall.htm
The first chart is the latest surface actual issued by the UK Met Office, showing fronts and centres. The charts following on are forecast charts out to T+132 hours(5 days), and can be used under the Forecast section below.

b Actual surface chart with weather symbols
meteocentre.com/analyse/map.php?hour=0&lang=en&map=UK
This is a chart issued every hour; you need to understand the weather symbols on the map; sometimes this site is down but not often

BBC Weather Centre forecasts
bbc.co.uk/weather/
I have had to alter this due to some changes they have made. Click on this site, then UK, then NE England for this area. Try compariing this with mine. If anyone wants please do a check and let me know, say after about 30 days, who did best!

c an actual chart again
xcweather.co.uk/
this one needs no understanding of Met Office weather symbols; very good.

d another plotted chart
www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rgbsyn.html

this is another Met Office type chart fromt the excellent Wetterzentrale centre

e BBC Weather site - radar
bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/ukrainfall_06.shtml
The BBC site, this for radar, and opens up all kinds of weather data. Forecasts for towns/cities, is sometimes rather different than the Met Office version. If in doubt take the Met Office.

f Radar sites; Met Office
secure.metoffice.gov.uk/aviation/hourly_radar.jsp

This is the Met Office General aviation site; its first class, but you must register first. You will find many items, including this, are free.

I really could not leave this site out as an ex forecaster with the UK Met Office. If only they would let those of us on the Net have a peek at some of their programmes for forecasting!

g Satellite data- Dundee University
www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/auth.html

This site is first class, Infra Red and Visual from NOAA polar orbiting satellites. You have to register but it is free.

h Satellite data again
www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=charts;type=nwsat;sess=
This belongs to Net Weather.First class pictures.

h1 Upper air information
www.westwind.ch/w_0sow.php
this is part of the excellent westwind site. This part shows the aerological diagrams for a number of places in the UK and Europe. Perhaps only for those with a lot of knowledge but very good.

h2 Upper air
westwind.ch/w_0sok.php
if the first does not work, try this please

h3 Forecast skew-T diagrams
www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=nwdcskew;sess=

these diagrams will give you what the GFS computer is forecasting in the upper air at various places in the UK. Anyone not familiar with the technique, please read my explanation on the same page.

the initial link is not working at the moment(16/3/06) but the link explaining how to understand them can still be accessed from this link. Another site is http://www.westwind.ch/w_0sow.php but the link in here will not work. You must type it in the url bar separately.

i Other Forecast sites
weatheronline.co.uk/
4.6 A site with stacks of weather information on it, surface, radar, satellite, forecast products, very good, but oh the pop ups!

i1 another Forecast site
weathercommerce.net/
This gives a pictorial presentation of the weather expected over the UK for the next 5 days. As good as any.

i2 yet another Forecast site
www.wiseweather.co.uk
This site is run by an ex Met Office observer and is nicely presented. Seems as accurate as any.

j Other Forecast sites
www.metcheck.com/

Metcheck has a variety of computer forecasts available, some you need to be a premium member.

this is one of the forecast sites

k Global Forecast System(GFS)
meted.ucar.edu/nwp/pcu2/avintro.htm
This is an  overview and explanation of the GFS NOAA product. Very comprehensive and much of it very technical.

l GFS computer data forecasts
www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten/tkavneur.html
this is the actual GFS computer run. There are others and they are shown in the links below.

m The European Forecast site
westwind.ch/
This will give you forecasts of just about every weather element you can think of, out to T+384. Very reliable, as in another thread, to about T+120 hours.

n Other sites
www.netweather.tv/forum/

This is the web site I belong to. But yes its a first class site. Has a forum for chat about matters meteorological or other matters. Its very well regulated. There are all kinds of weather data, be it actual, surface, satellite, forecasts(including a site specific postal code, updated 4X daily), various computer outputs. It is well worth a visit.

There are many other sites giving weather information, the ones mentioned are just a few of them. I use them all at times and I find them all very good.

o How I check the weather, actual, and then do my forecast
johnholmes-weather.co.uk/

1. Starting with my own weather observation

2. Looking at the observations in the rest of the UK; non technical sort.

3. Look at the Bracknell analysis

4. check on the satellites, Infra red and Visual

5. look at the UK radar

Now for the possible forecast

6. Look at the GFS output, for as far ahead as you want to see; for surface pressure, rainfall, temperatures, wind speed and direction. All are there on the left hand side of the site.

7. Back to the Bracknell surface charts; just to check on what they are suggesting over the next T+12 hours, again out as far as you wish(well to T+132 hours).

And there you have your own self made forecast. You can, cheat, in a way, if you like, by going to Net Weather or Metcheck and looking at what the latest GFS run is showing for the area you live in.

For example, with the Net Weather site, in my case, go to SouthYorkshire. Now check my forecast and see if its similar! It usually is but not always.

Have fun.
